Quote of the Day-December 18, 2009

40) "Education has for it's object the formation of character."

- Herbert Spencer

Education has a goal to give us an educated character. When will education really help all change their character instead of a few?

Quote of the Day-December 14, 2009

39) "That's what college is for; getting as many bad decisions as possible out of the way before you are forced into the real world. I keep a checklist of 'em on the wall in my room."

- Jeph Jaques

College is a preparation place for the real world. It is better to take it out in college years than to screw up during your career lifetime. It is also better to make sure you learned from it as well.

Quote or the Day-December 11, 2009

38) "A university is what college becomes when the faculty looses interest in it's students."

- John Ciardi

I think this means that college professors can be more difficult to understand if they loose interest in what they teach.

Quote of the Day-December 9, 2009

37) "Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe."

-H. G. Wells

What I think this means is that human history is making education and catastrophe come out together in a way that is not of a benefit.

Quote of the Day-December 8, 2009

36) "The number of books will grow continually, and one can predict that the time will come when it will be a almost as difficult to learn anything from books as from direct study of the whole universe. It will be almost as convenient to search some bit of truth concealed in nature as it will be to find it in hidden in an immense multitude of bound volumes."

- Denis Diderot

I think this means that there are a lot of books so to learn anything will be harder as to study the whole world. It is going to be better to learn a little in the environment than to find it in loads of books.

Quote of the Day-December 4, 2009

35) "A well informed mind is the best security against the contagion of folly and vice. The vacant mind is ever on the watch for relief, and ready to plunge into error to escape the language of idleness."

- Ann Radcliffe

I think this means that people that are more educated avoid foolish actions. Those that rush and don't think, will fall with their errors into problems.

Quote of the Day-December 2, 2009

34) "America believes in education. The average professor earns more money in a year than a professional athlete earns in a week."

- Evan Esar

"I" think that this means that people who work in education earn less than a person who has another job/career. So this is basically encouraging people to not care for a position in education.

Quote of the Day-December 1, 2009

33) "The great aim of education is not knowledge but action."

- Herbert Spencer

I know what this means (really it's straight forward). If you only have knowledge but don't do anything to help out (action)...then your knowledge isn't useful. We were meant to have knowledge to use it as a benefit.
